Mistake 1 — Calibre «with margin»
What happens: the buyer picks a .30 MBC «just in case» for a .308 rifle, planning to also use it later for .300 Win Mag and 7.62×54R. The «one for all cases» logic breaks the physics.
Why it's bad: the MBC bore is optimised for a specific bullet diameter. If the bore is 1.5–2 mm larger than nominal:
- Propellant gases run ahead of the bullet — the expansion chambers work on nothing
- Turbulence in the first chamber deflects the bullet — point of aim drifts
- Sound and recoil reduction fall off noticeably: the device stops delivering what it was bought for
How to do it right: the MBC calibre must match the firearm calibre with a tolerance of +0.5 mm maximum. One barrel — one MBC. If a shooter owns rifles in different calibres, owning several MBCs is more sensible than one universal piece.

Mistake 2 — Cutting corners on material
What happens: the buyer sees a steel or aluminium MBC at 2–3× lower price than titanium and decides the «premium metal» upcharge is just marketing.
Why it's bad: the MBC material works at the limit of thermal and erosion endurance. Gases pass through chambers at 600–900 °C and 600–1,000 m/s — like a miniature plasma cutter aimed at chamber walls.

An aluminium MBC on a hunting calibre will physically degrade within 2–3 years of active use. A steel one will survive but adds 200+ g to the muzzle and shifts weapon balance. Titanium is the only material that holds lifespan at minimum mass.

Mistake 3 — Ignoring barrel thread
What happens: the buyer orders an MBC without verifying the barrel thread. The product arrives, and the Saiga-308 has M18×1, while the ordered MBC is 5/8×24 UNF.
Why it's bad: the thread is not a «detail» — it is an interface. Thread mismatch means:
- The MBC physically will not screw on to the barrel
- An adapter creates an extra joint, additional stress, and a risk of loosening at the shot
- A pitch mismatch (e.g. M18×1 vs M18×1.5) damages the barrel thread when forced
The right approach — a 5-minute algorithm:
- Unscrew the factory flash hider or brake
- Measure the thread major diameter and pitch with calipers (or use a thread gauge)
- Cross-check against the marking on the firearm or the documentation
- If there is no thread at all — a licensed gunsmith cuts one
